Certified Driver Program Design Sprint

Certified Driver Program for EV Rideshare

Defining a Premium Driver Experience for Electric Vehicle Rideshare Platform

An automotive and rideshare platform collaboration sought to define the ideal key value principles and components of a Certified Driver Program (CDP). The goal was to elevate the driver experience, create emotional value, and establish a competitive advantage in the emerging EV rideshare market.

    The Challenge

The companies needed to understand what would make drivers interested in entering and remaining in a premium certification program. Key questions included: What does it mean to be in the program for drivers? How could this program provide value to different stakeholders? What could create emotional value beyond functional benefits?

    The Approach

Stratos conducted a comprehensive design sprint that included:

    • Uncovering motivations, expectations, and challenges of rideshare drivers through in-depth interviews and group sessions
    • Researching inspirational cases from other industries that successfully elevated the status of their collaborators
    • Analyzing what direct and indirect competitors were offering
    • Co-designing with stakeholders and rideshare drivers to explore, define, and validate concepts

    Key Deliverables

    • Three Driver Profiles: Expert drivers, aspiring experts (novices), and female drivers (emergent market)
    • Ten Design Principles: Core values focusing on driver personal goals, recognition, scale, and support facilities
    • Value Proposition: Comprehensive framework for the ideal CDP including ecosystem touchpoints
    • Ideal Program Ecosystem: Physical and digital touchpoints including lounge areas, charging hubs, signature apparel, and app profiles
    • Landing Page Concepts: Low-fidelity prototypes tested with drivers
    • Value System Map: Comprehensive mapping of stakeholder value exchanges

    Impact

    • Created a human-centered framework for driver program development addressing needs across three distinct driver segments
    • Identified key value drivers: income increase, recognition, clear information, safety features, and mentorship opportunities
    • Defined ecosystem touchpoints spanning physical hubs, digital platforms, signature vehicles, and professional development
    • Validated monthly subscription value points ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on driver segment
    • Established design principles balancing driver autonomy with premium service standards
    • Provided actionable roadmap for program launch with validated concepts from real rideshare drivers
